Cooksey Advisory

FOR RELEASE: July 29, 2002

Dear Editor:

Starting Wednesday, July 31, John Tate, Vice President of the 2.2 million-member National Right to Work Committee®, will hold a 2-week series of press conferences statewide to unveil the grassroots group’s upcoming ad campaign targeting Louisiana Congressman John Cooksey’s failure to keep his campaign promise to cosponsor and seek roll-call votes on legislation to end forced unionism.

TV advertisements that will run statewide as Mr. Cooksey’s race for U.S. Senate heats up are part of a $1.7 million nationwide media and direct mail campaign initiated by the National Right to Work Committee® in July.

The Louisiana ad will be previewed at each news conference. For details, call (703) 321-9820.

The National Right to Work Committee®’s aim is to boost Congressional support for the National Right to Work Act (H.R. 1109), which would end forced unionism nationwide by removing the provisions in federal law that authorize union officials to confiscate dues from workers as a condition of employment.

Congressman Cooksey pledged during his first campaign for the House of Representatives to “cosponsor and seek roll-call votes on” the National Right to Work Act. But since that time, despite strong support for the bill from nearly 80% of his constituents, Mr. Cooksey has repeatedly refused to honor his promise.

My staff and I hope you will cover this press conference. We will be in touch with you soon to follow up.

Sincerely,

Kirsten Andersen

Director of Communication
