Another Day, Another International Complaint
The AFL-CIO continues to try to undermine American democracy by filing complaints with international organizations like the United Nations. The latest complaint involves a claim that the National Labor Relations Act “has now become a regulatory regimen that enshrines the so-called rights of employers to oppose the efforts of their employees to engage in freedom of association,” the AFL-CIO claims. The complaint was filed with the Brussels-based International Labor Organization on October 25.
Interestingly, the case the AFL-CIO is “complaining” about was handled and won by National Right to Work Foundation attorneys on behalf of employees in Ohio who opposed Card Check Forced Unionism.
Supporters of individual worker’s rights have a hard time reading the complaint without laughing. The AFL-CIO, the nation’s primary defender of compulsory unionism, forcing millions of workers to join or pay fees to a union as a condition of employment, is claiming violations of “freedom of association.”
The fact is, the Bush NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) has been slow and weak in protecting the rights of independent-minded workers. They could do a lot more to protect workers’ rights and perhaps generate even more complaints from the supporters of forced unionism.
